The MMC Neuroscience Institute - NeurologyMaine Medical Center is the state's premier resource for the evaluation and treatment of children and adults with neurological conditions. The capabilities of MMC's in-house Board certified neurologists are supported by Maine Medical Partners - Neurology (formerly Maine Neurology),  a highly regarded medical group that provides 24/7 coverage for inpatient neurology consults and emergent care, including the stroke program. The group's neurologists are fellowship-trained subspecialists in such areas as stroke, epilepsy, pain medicine and neuromuscular disease, giving patients access to an extraordinary depth and breadth of neurological expertise, close to home.

The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center is the state's only hospital with two Board certified pediatric neurologists and three pediatric epileptologists on staff. The medical center is home to one of only two muscular dystrophy clinics in Maine.

MMC's neurologists are on the leading edge of medical and technological advances for treating neurological conditions.The MMC Neuroscience Institute - Neurology Among the state-of-the-art treatments available are intrathecal baclofen pump (IBP) management to help decrease spasticity related to multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries and other neurological diseases, vagal nerve stimulation (VNS), and botulinum toxin therapy for such conditions as dystonia, hemifacial spasm and headache.

MMC's neuro-diagnostic include sophisticated MRI protocols, MR spectroscopy, CT scanning, and a Telestroke Network that brings the expertise of the medical center's neurologists to community hospitals' emergency departments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Using videoconferencing and electronic transfer of CT scans, the Network gives community-based physicians timely access to consultations from specialists skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients.

Plus, MMC offers an array of free support groups for patients with neurological conditions including MS, Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, and brain tumors.
