The following programs are currently being offered at the Maine Medical center Geriatric Center at 66 Bramhall Street in Portland. Parking is available.
Caring for Your Aging Family Member with Early Dementia This group offered in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine and is facilitated by experts in memory impairment from the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine. This group focuses on providing tools to assist caregivers in managing family members with early dementia. This group is offered on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month from 4:00 – 5:30. Early Dementia Psychotherapy Group This group runs simultaneous with the Caring for Aging Family Members with Early Dementia group and is designed to help individuals with a new diagnosis of dementia process and express their feelings and emotions about the diagnosis with others who are experiencing similar issues. It is facilitated by Maureen Callnan, MS, PMH-NP who is an Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Membership in the group requires and initial assessment. Medicare Part D Help Offered in collaboration with Southern Maine Agency on Aging, this program provides older individuals with an opportunity to learn more about Medicare Part D. Health insurance specialists from SMAA offer free help with enrollment and comparing drug plans. This program is available at the Geriatric Center November-December. Appointments are necessary: please contact SMAA at 396-6500 for more information.
