Free Medical Care
Maine law requires that free medical care must be given to Maine people with income less than 100% of the federal poverty level. However, Maine Medical Center gives free care to Maine people at 175% of the poverty level:

Please apply for free medical care at the Maine Medical Center Outpatient Central Registry office at 662-2433, the Brighton Campus Patient Registration office at 662-8200, the Scarborough Patient Registration office at 396-7535, or the Patient Accounts office at 662-2411 during normal business hours (8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).
Patients admitted to the hospital may arrange for an interview by calling the Admitting desk at x2315. You will be asked if you have insurance of any kind to help pay for your care. You may also be asked to show that insurance or a government program will not pay for your care.
Only necessary medical care is given as free care. If you do not qualify for free hospital care, you are allowed to ask for a fair hearing. We will tell you how to apply for a fair hearing.
